Some tips from Natura on how you can Sleep Green tonight
From your sheets, to your pillow to your mattress, accept no compromise. Ensure that the products you buy are certified organic by a third party source, like the Organic Trade Association. The organic products that we carry say so in the desciption. We always try to offer a variety of healthy products to suit everyone's appetite for green!
Did you know Wal-Mart buys more organic cotton than any other supplier worldwide? We love that they contribute to the global consciousness of buying organic but be aware that any dye added to an organic product introduces known carcinogens to the workers, local groundwater and consumers. If you’re going organic, do it au natural.
Clean Green
From your linens to your ceiling fan, choose biodegradable, toxicity-free cleaners to keep your sleeping environment dust-free and clean. Remember, you’ll be spending 8 hours here a night (if you’re lucky) and residue from cleaning products can increase the chemical concentration in the air.
Rotate your mattress
Many mattresses (Natura mattresses included) are now no-flip, but they still need to be rotated regularly. Your hips and buttocks are heavier than your shoulders and head, and rotating every three months prolongs the comfort and life of your mattress.
Chill out
Studies show sleeping in a slightly cooler environment contributes to a deeper, more healing sleep. Cracking open the window exchanges the air while you sleep, but adjusting your furnace and air conditioner will also help.
In the winter, set your thermostat to 68 F instead of 72. In the summer, give your air conditioner a break and maintain the low temperature and humidity level instead of pushing them uncomfortably low.
Reduce your VOC’s
You won’t find them on the ingredient list of the products you buy, but these carbon-based molecules can increase indoor air pollution by as much as 1000%. Paint, furnishings, carpets and cleaners all contribute to the problem, but products that use water-based adhesives or soy-based foams (such as BiOH) can reduce your exposure.
